Cordless Swivel Sweeper Original Seen

Finally, something that really does what it is suppose to do. This thing is great. Will pick up cooked macoroni. The first time I saw this was when a friend, who has twins and a 2, 8 and 14 year old(that is five in all), demonstrated it to me. She had just fed her children vegetable soup and cleaned up the mess with this. It picked up the corn, peas, etc. I immediately searched for one, the cheapest including shipping, was with Amazon. The only thing, and this is not a bad thing, is that if you have rugs with a fring e, it will grab it. Other than that, this thing really works. It will even pick up metal nuts and screws. Great for the kitchen with pets. I love it. I just hope it holds up. It is plastic, but it is very easy to clean and the charge last longer than most cordless sweepers.

  1. I LOVE this product, and can't say enough good things about it. I purchased this product after being extremely disappointed with a more-expensive Bissell sweeper I purchased (see my review for Bissell 2800B Perfect Sweep Turbo Electric Sweeper).

There are numerous complaints in the reviews from people saying that their battery will no longer hold a charge. In reading the owner's manual, there is a warning addressing the battery life:

"IMPORTANT: ...When recharging, charge time will vary dependent upon the amount of power left in the battery after its last use. Recommended recharging time for the battery after completely depleting is 6-8 hours. Battery may be left in charger for extended periods of time, but do NOT exceed 24 consecutive hours. Doing so may lead to shortened overall battery life. It is not necessary to wait until battery power is fully depleted before charging."

I would be willing to bet that this is the cause of the problem for many of the negative reviewers. In their defense, the warning is somewhat buried in the manual and is fairly easy to miss. The manufacturer of should make this warning much more visible.

  2. I've had the Swivel Sweeper for about 3 months. I have had no problems with it or the batteries. I find it to be very convenient to use. I have read extensively about the problems that others have had so I was wary about getting one.

I bought my sister one for Christmas and she loves it.

It's great on wood floors and ceramic tile. I don't think it would be as effective on rugs - since it is just a sweeper - not a vacuum, and the load on the motor due to the drag on the carpet would likely discharge the battery pack very quickly.

In regard to the battery issues, the Company appears to have a quality control problem since they probably use the cheapest NiMH batteries available to maximize their margins. So, it could be hit or miss - you get a good set of batteries in the pack or you don't. There are six C batteries in the battery pack (which can't be opened) - if they are not matched properly, the pack won't last because the higher voltage batteries will discharge into the lower voltage batteries.

Also, the battery charger is not microprocessor controlled which gives the capability to monitor the battery temperature and voltage and thus control the rate of charge to minimize battery temperature. The charger only charges at a constant rate instead of switching to a trickle charge when the charge nears completion to reduce the battery temperature which preserves battery life. Heat is worst enemy for batteries. This is why you shouldn't keep the battery pack in the charger for more than 5 or 6 hours (less time if the battery wasn't completely discharged).

Also, remove the battery pack physically from the charger when not charging - otherwise the charger will discharge the battery.

It would have been nice if the Company gave the provision to replace the C batteries in the battery pack. In that way, a higher quality battery could be purchased from other sources.

It would have also been nice if the Company provided an option to purchase one of those microprocessor controlled fast chargers that charge the battery in two hours and then go into trickle charge to keep the battery topped off - then one wouldn't have to worry about overcharging. You can purchase these chargers for about $10.

When my battery pack fails, I will likely cut open the pack (which is not easy to do) and replace the batteries with high quality C NiMH which you can find readily in Radio Shack or on the Web (e.g., greenbatteries.com).
And, maybe even adapt the battery charger to a microprocessor based fast charger.

All in all, the product is a good idea and works fairly well for the price. But, I feel that there should be other options that allow the customer to buy up so to speak.

Note, you are better off buying the Swivel Sweeper from the many dealers on ebay - it's cheaper ($25) - that's what I did.

  3. I got one at a thrift store that was brand-new and it works great. It picked up the wood shavings that my pet rodents throw around and I spilled some natural sugar on the floor last night and it cleaned up the large portions of it. There is no suction, only the rotating heads that act like brooms on all sides and it swivels. I don't know about paying forty dollars for it, I bought mine for 8 dollars. I'd say it's worth about half of what they are selling it for now. Give it a few months, they'll go down.

  4. I really enjoy having this handy tool around. I received mine for Christmas and it still works great. The Swivel Sweeper is great for pre- vacuuming, and also for when you need to make your place look presentable in a moments notice. I have an 800 square foot apartment and it takes me approximately 15 minutes to go over all the surfaces, leaving the surface of my floors virtually free of dust, lint, hairs, threads ,crumbs , and other gomies that make your carpets look dirty. Its great to use before vacuuming, as it picks up brush clogging threads and other surface debris so your vacuum can concentrate on the deep dirt.

The Swivel Sweeper works great on most surfaces. I have used it on linoleum, medium pile carpets, area rugs, and dry cement. You can use it almost anywhere you can use a broom or vacuum and its totally cordless. I have to empty the dirt bin approximately three times total when doing my whole apartment. Its totally gratifying to see all that filth end up in the wastebasket. I can clean my whole apartment about 5 times before I simply have to plug it into the recharger. It gets plugged in or emptyied whenever the motor starts to slow.

Its true that the swivel sweeper is mostly made of plastic. While it is made of plastic, I feel that it is fairly durable, and if it is used per manufacturers instruction it should last a long time. There are also explicit instructions on recharging, that need to be followed. It does warn that if you overcharge, you may kill the battery. To remove the hairs and threads from the brushes, I simply pull them out with my hands.(I misplaced the thread cutting tool early on,and have found that simply pulling the debris from the brushes to be quicker and easier.) When the brushes get real dirty, I wipe them clean with a damp sponge, and then carefully dry them.

The pros are: its quick, its agile, its light, its cordless, its inexpensive.
The cons are: dust bin fills up quickly, but its amazing and great to see and eliminate all that surface filth before it gets ground in.

  5. I bought the swivel sweeper about a month ago and absolutely love it!! My co-worker told me about it and her mother-in-law had bought her one...they both love it. She showed me how easy it is to use and I ran home to buy one. The sweeper is very light, handy, and easy to use. It is great for hard to reach places, like under the couch and corners. It lasts for about 30 mins and it is very easy to recharge. I hate to vacumm and sweep, and this is the best, easiest, and fastest solution! It works especially well on hardwoor floors and tile. I have already given one to my sister and mom. Give it a try.

  6. I'm not one to write reviews but this really is a handly little sweeper. Mine was a gift for Mother's Day from one of my four children and it's the best gift I've ever gotten. We have 5 cats, a dog a parrot, all indoors and live in a 74 yr old house. Enuf said!! This Swivel picks up everything but men and money!!! It gets the dust bunnies where they stand; they don't wind up under a bed, behind a door or in another room. I can now sweep the stairs with a load of laundry under one arm and the Swivel in the other hand. It works equally well on wood floors, bathroom tile and rugs. I can run it thru the entire house on one battery charge ...but best of all, I now have time for things other than sweeping up!!

  7. All right, now let's be clear about something. This is a SWEEPER. It is not a VACUUM. It is going to pick up surface debris really well and do that best on hard surfaces. In fact, it is GREAT on hard surfaces. It does a decent job on carpet; don't expect it to do a deep cleaning. It is great for a quick clean on carpeted stairs. Yes, it has a small collection cup but it takes about 5 seconds to empty, snap back in place and keep going. As others have said, don't keep the battery in the charger; it will shorten the life. This is not unique to this product, as my husband, who growls at me for leaving my laptop plugged in all the time, will tell you. Run the sweeper until the battery runs down, charge the battery for no more than 8 hours and put the battery back in the sweeper. This is pretty clearly spelled out in the instruction manual. Anyway, I have been watching the infomercials for this thing for years and finally decided to buy one at Target. We are in the process of converting most of our flooring from carpet to tile, PVC tile and laminate and this is virtually all we are going to need to maintain those flooring surfaces! I'll keep the vacuum for occasional deeper cleaning of rugs and stair carpeting but I have a feeling it's going to be gathering a lot of dust! If you don't expect this sweeper to behave like a vaccuum and are looking for something for quick daily maintenance, this is for you!

  8. I was a bit skeptical about this product, but decided to try it any way. I am very happy with it! It does just what it says - spins into hard to get to areas, picks up everything, etc. Even on carpet it works, however you have to go a bit slower. Perfect for linoleum and tile. The tray does have to be emptied frequently but it is so easy to do.
