Works Great with Long Haired Dogs & People, if You Know the Tricks!!!

lens review Electrolux Ergospace Green Canister Vacuum

Electrolux Ergospace Green Canister Vacuum

I just bought this vacuum today at Costco. Paid only $158.99 for it, as they had a Mfr's Instant Rebate of $40 off the original price, very reasonably priced with the coupon!

People who always comment on how great wood floors are, never tried to keep them clean! Especially, in the snowy winters!

I have spent 6 years having to dread every time I had to sweep 2,000 sq. ft. of wood floors in my new house. I would drag out my $800 Ricoh Sweeper w/this huge long hose that attached to the back, and it was like wrestling with an 80 ft. python! It absolutely wore me out by the time I was finished, because it was clumsy to move around and very heavy. I'm >50, and in decent shape, but that sweeper got the best of me.

I have been trying to find something I felt would be lighter, and yet do a decent job of getting the floors swept, so I could really tell they were clean.

I read the reviews posted here, and other websites about this little gem, after having seen it a few days ago @ Costco. Feeling fairly confident about buying it, I went back to get it today.

I am just amazed how easy it is to maneuver around in tight places, corners, and under couches, chairs, beds, and amazingly enough - even dressers! The suction and power are superb! The turbo sweeper head for the rugs, is powerful, as well.

Wasn't impressed that it only came with one extra bag, but I'll survive. I'm just thrilled over how easy it is to use, and am planning on telling all my friends who have wood floors, that they need to get one of these sweepers! It was great to finish sweeping, and not feel like I'd just done a few rounds with a prizefighter!

  1. Just got this vacuum today, so this review is based on first impression. I'll try to keep it simple. For reference, I have laminate, ceramic tile and linoleum flooring with a few small entry mats. I have two cats, two birds and a very hairy husband, all of whom shed badly and also a messy 10-year-old boy.

    PROS:
~Excellent on hard floors. After using, it almost looked like I had mopped, the floors are so shiny. This vac sucks the fine dust AND larger dirt particles right up thanks to the brushes on the hard floor head. This one cut my vacuuming time in half because it cleans so well! (My previous machine was a Eureka Boss 4D Bagless Pet Fresh.)

~Up against base boards, corners, under chairs and tight spaces, no problem! For the first time, I did not have to stop and wrestle with attaching a crevice tool to get in those spots. The only furniture that had to be moved out was my couch, as opposed to EVERYTHING with the old vac.

~ It's much quieter than the old vac.

~ Lightweight and easy to maneuver. Small for easy storage.

~ Power cord quickly rewinds into vacuum with the push of a button.

~ Filters and bag are easy to get to.

~ Exhaust is directed vertically(up). Very important when vacuuming bird seed and fur/hair.

    ~ Works well for stairs.

    ~ Powerful, effective suction!

~ Gentle, doesn't scratch my floor like the other vac.

    CONS:
~ no onboard storage for the turbo head(not a huge deal to me, since I don't need to switch much)

~ Power cord is on the short side, but the hose length helps compensate somewhat.

~ This is not a vacuum for a home with lots of rugs/carpet(because the turbo(carpet) head is air powered only), although it still does a decent job at cleaning smaller rugs.

Bottom line, this vac is perfect for my home. I absolutely love it and hope it lasts a long time/is durable.

UPDATE March 2013: Still no complaints! I would definitely purchase this vacuum again.

  3. I purchased this vacuum about a year ago and could not be more happy/satisfied with it! It's quieter than my hair dryer! It has great suction power and works great in my house as I have only throw rugs, all tile or hardwood floors. Loved it so much, I bought a 2nd one for our office for cleaning people to use since its so quiet and our company is 24/7. We have mainly wall to wall carpet at work, but it works great and so quiet! The new one has a longer hose and two floor heads, one being turbo. LOVE this vacuum. It actually makes the "job" of vacuuming easier!

  4. Just bought this baby at Costco. Overall, I rank it very good, and I've been looking for a long time for a cannister vac. worth buying -- most of them look like they should be marketed thru Toys-R-Us. And, guess what, it's made in Hungary - big surprise - and well made at that. It's well engineered and very powerful. Has a long vac. hose and a long, retractible power cord. The machine also runs fairly quiet. And, it has a continuously variable, motor speed control for varying the degree of vacuuming power - something I've never seen in a vacuum.

It does require three filters to operate: A rather smallish conventional bag on the intake side, a flat rectangular filter on the exhaust side, and a "motor filter" whose purpose I have yet to ascertain. These are collectively hyped as "HEPA" filtration, a term that has been misused to the point of being utterly meaningless. Be prepared to spend money for filters.

By way of accessories, it comes with two floor vac nozzles, and little else. If you want any other decent acc.'s, you will have to buy them separately (not an easy or inexpensive task). It does include some sort of small "multi-purpose" tool which is basically a throw-away. But, the hoses do take standard 1 1/4" acc.'s.

About the manual: It has the obligatory (and utterly worthless) safety warnings. It is written in three languages (one of which is English). The diagrams and the fine print are almost unreadable - which is a big drawback, since, with three filters to change, and lots of neat little features, a nice big foldable instruction sheet would be much easier to use.

On the whole, however, it definitely fills a market niche for a reasonably well made, utilitarian cannister vac. I will probably buy another one as a spare.

  5. At first you think that the it is not cleaning well, but you need to get use to the quietness of the machine, then when you realize how well it cleans. I recommend it to anyone that wants a canister cleaner.

  6. I bought this canister vacuum on amazon.com a few months ago, as it was a CR Best Buy and Amazon.com had a good deal on it. My whole family just LOVES it! First, it is amazingly quiet. You can actually have a conversation or watch TV while you are vacuuming, if you are so inclined. Not so with my ancient Hoover Elite, which has since been put out to pasture. That thing was as loud as a jet engine!

Secondly, it sucks. Hard. What I mean is that it has plenty of suction power. Which is really great because I have 7 pet birds (no, I am not an animal hoarder!) and have to sweep and vacuum the area around their cages at least once a day. This vac gets every feather, bit of dander, seeds, etc. I have tried certain stick vacs for the bird area and they never worked very well.

Most of my home is hardwood floors or tile, but I find that this vac works well on carpet also. You can hear the little bits of dirt getting sucked up through the hose.

It also has a long enough hose and a long enough cord. I like that the cord retracts into the vacuum at the press of a button. Finally, the bags are small-ish, so I thought that I'd be replacing them constantly. Not so! When the light came on that I had to finally change the bag, that sucker was PACKED FULL--not a centimeter of space wasted, and no mess taking it out of the vacuum. I love this canister vacuum!

  7. I picked this up at Costco for considerably less than I see it advertised elsewhere. I have many unhappy vacuum experiences and thought was just fated to hate the product or spend big bucks. This one is just the ticket for me, on a budget but living in a kingdom of cobwebs and pet hair. I have vaulted ceilings with beams, and this is the first time I have not had to stand on a chair or lift the vacuum canister onto a counter to reach every nook and cranny. Long hose, long cord, very portable, and wow, it REALLY does adjust when you go from bare floor to carpet so that you don't get sucked down onto the carpet. The suction adjuster is easy to use, but I didn't even need it. Love the bare floor setting, which has little stiff brushes that loosen debris that might be a little stuck to the floor. I also have cabinets off the floor with space underneath, and this is the first time i have been able to easily reach all the way under cabinets and furniture with out having to assemble some sort of contraption or get under the furniture. Don't care about headlights, as long as I can get in and out under that couch! The cannister follows smoothly along, and because the hose is so long, I actually pull it less than with my last one--actually everything about it feels smooth. Wand is very easily adjustable and actually is long enough for a tall person to be comfortable. The accessory tool is very simplistic, but it does fit in the vacuum and I always seems to lose all those tools anyway. For someone who is happy with just a small round brush and a crevice tool, it's fine. If you want a lot of fancy accessories, you'll need to purchase them separately or look elsewhere. I have mostly bare floors, so I can't speak to its performance on carpet. But I'm happy to not have to contort to hold down the corners of area rugs to vacuum over them. I still hate vacuuming, but at least I am not having ranting fits about how much I hate the tool during the process.

Down side: The filster is supposedly washable, not sure about that. The bags are pretty small, but that is the trade off for having the canister be very portable. I have't bought any bags, but I may spend a fortune on them.
