BISSELL ReadyClean PowerBrush Upright 47B2

Right after I got this little carpet clearer I went online and googled about carpet cleaning soap and how to make your own, because I wanted to see if there was an alternative to expensive carpet cleaning soaps. I found a lot of recipes, some more complicated than others. Some dead easy to make. The dead easiest was just plain warm water.

I couldn't believe that would work, that this little carpet cleaner and just plain warm water would get the dirt out. But holy moly, it does. Fill this with warm water and watch the dirty water come into the receptacle.

Yes, the receptacle is small and you have to empty it more than you would if you had a larger and much heavier machine, but it's just water, easy to dump, easy to refill. And this machine does a very good job of sucking the water up out of the carpet, so that it dries in just a couple hours, so now there is no excuse to not having those heavily trafficked areas as clean as the rest of your carpet.

In closing I should say that we don't wear shoes in our house. But somehow the carpet still gets dirty as evidenced by the dirty water this machine sucks up. I'm telling you this, because if you do wear shoes in your house and track in greasy dirt, then maybe my warm water solution won't work for you. But it works for us.

  1. I have used Bissell carpet cleaners for years. Different models have slightly different bells and whistles, but the basic cleaning system stays basically the same. That's because it works. Spray hot Shampoo/water over small areas of the carpet, work it in to the pile of the carpet with rotating brushes then suck it back into the machine.

The BISSELL ReadyClean PowerBrush Upright Deep Cleaner is the perfect implementation of that philosophy. It gets the carpet clean, and doesn't wipe you out with the exhaustion inherent in using the giant rental units from the grocery store. As with all Bissell products, assembly is easy and takes just a couple of minutes. Fill the clean solution bottle with hot tap water to the line, then with shampoo to the line. Go over the rug and empty the dirty solution out of the waste water tank when full. It really couldn't be easier.

The machine does a great job on normal soil and dirt. It even does a pretty good job on hairball residue. For tougher stains use a spray on pre-treat solution. The only drawback to this machine is the more narrow cleaning path. If you have a-lot of acreage to cover, you might want to consider a model with a wider cleaning area. This is the third Bissell deep cleaner we've had over the decades and we highly recommend it.

  3. This is a fine carpet cleaner. I have only area rugs on my hardwood and it is perfect in size to maneuver this product and it does a great job cleaning.

  4. With two dogs in our household, we inevitably have "pet stains" on our carpet. Using spot removers didn't help much and professional cleaning was expensive, so I looked for something in between. This Bissell cleaner was just what we needed! It's the right size to use on the stains, light enough that I can handle it myself, and easy to operate. I wish it had a hand-held attachment to clean my stairs. Other than that, I am extremely pleased with the product and very glad I purchased it. 5. This is basically a carpet cleaner which squirts cleaning fluid onto your carpet, brushes it with a rotating brush and sucks all the fluid back up again into a container which you then pour out.

I already have two handheld wet vacs. The first one I ever had was a cordless and was very poor, mainly because this type of vacuuming requires a lot of power and battery power is just inadequate. The second one was corded and much more powerful, except that the capacity to hold the fluid is small and I keep having to add fluid and pour it out again. So it was only good for small spills, tiring, noisy and not good for your back or knees!

This one pretty much does the same thing as my handhelds but is much bigger. It's like one of those vacuums you rent out at the supermarket but a small home version. As such it works great. It's much lighter than those and works just as well but on a smaller basis. I would not use this to clean an entire room such as you would with those, but on spills, dirty areas, spots, etc.

Overall, I like it a lot. It's lightweight and easy to use. This would not be my only carpet cleaning solution in my house, but just one of my arsenal against various humans, animals, visitors, children, spouse and sundry others who carelessly track dirt over my formerly spotless carpet. Highly recommended to those who have a problem with dirty carpets, and much better than handhelds.

Update: I now also have BISSELL ReadyClean Upright Deep Cleaner, White/Blue, 40N7. The White/Blue 40N7 is 10 bucks cheaper at this time (prices fluctuate), but don't mistake the two. The White/Blue 40N7 does not have the rotating brush, it has a stationary brush that just hangs under the vacuum.

  6. Smaller and obviously designed for saving space and small areas. I am a mother and therefore I have a couple of carpet cleaners. This one is ideal for the bedrooms and hallway upstairs, where there isn't too much traffic and staining opportunity (although somehow kids always find a way). In the higher traffic areas of my home, I definitely choose my much larger Hoover. But to avoid carrying the huge thing upstairs every time there is a spill or I want to clean, this is ideal. I can definitely see where this would be the perfect size for a smaller apartment or home. In the rooms in which I have tested it thus far, the carpet seems brighter and the pile is re-fluffed. One thing I loved was that the water extraction seems to be VERY strong. I don't want to clean a room and then have to avoid it for two days, lest I deal with soggy-bottom-socks. About two hours after cleaning you'd never know the floor had been wet. Very impressed!

The unit feels sturdy, however when not filled with water, it is pretty lightweight. When not in use, the handle slides down for easier storage. It is easy to pull out of the closet and use it without too much muss and fuss.

  7. Throughout our house we have either hard wood floors or tile. Living room, bedrooms, and dining room have area rugs. First I will say that my wife will be the primary user of this but the first test run belong to me. When you see this unit in the store it is much smaller than the other larger, deluxe units and seems like it would take a really long time to get the rugs cleaned. Well I have had a larger one and the biggest pain was using it and making turns to get another section of the rug as carpet cleaners are designed to go straight line cleaning. The next is when you have to store or carry it. The larger ones will have to huffing and puffing to carry it around and then mad when you have to figure out were to store it. Then you will not want to use the larger one because of the weight and it will sit in a corner closet and you will wish you did not spend the extra $100.

The performance: This cleaner got right to work. We cleaned what we considered our "cleanest" carpet in the guess room. The dogs don't sleep in there and we recently had a visitor for an extended stay. I proceed to clean it and SO MUCH dirt came out! I was amazed. I thought that regular vacuuming kept it clean; not so. Then I did half the carpet in the main bedroom and after it dried a little I could see a difference in the color of the rug. It works as well as the larger one I use to have. The key with any of the carpet cleaners is to go SLOW. Allow the cleaning solution to work and make sure you suck up all the fluid on the carpet that you can. You can see when it is done sucking up the fluid. You can also make a pass, putting fluid on the carpet, and start another row and then go back to the one you started. Finally, instead of getting the one with the heating elemet in it to warm up the water, just put hat tap water in the supply tank and save your electrical breaker some stress, and have one less thing that will break.

Overall, the size and weight, cleaning power, and ease of cleaning the unit after use will win you over and make you happy you only spent $100!
