ring review Hoover SH40060 MultiCyclonic Canister

Hoover SH40060 MultiCyclonic Canister

After reading many reviews on about 5 websites for at least 10 vacuums I settled on the Hoover canister vac. Let me tell you the stuff people said in all the other reviews is spot on. It has great suction and really picks up the dirt and pet hair. I had to empty the chamber about 5 times on my first cleaning of the house. The filters are easy to access so you can wash them. The powered head does a great job picking up everything all the way to the baseboard. My carpet hasn't felt this clean and fluffy on my bare feet in years; my old upright was just doing a poor job. Everyone has mentioned the short cord as a small con but for my sized house i had no problem with the reach, given the length of the cord plus the vacuum itself and the reach of the hose it has good reach. I would recommend this to anyone needing a good vacuum for their home

  1. I didn't purchase this....my neighbor did. But she wanted my recommendation on vacuums (I used to sell them...all brands)and, TBH, I was hesitant to recommend a Hoover (never had much to recommend about them) but I told her she wanted a canister, as she is in her late 70's and needed something that would pick up her cat hair but not kill her to push around. This vacuum seemed to fit her needs, so I sat at her computer and ordered it for her. She got it yesterday and called today to tell me she loves it. Later today, I met her outside her home and she told me to come in and try her new vacuum. I was, to say the least, impressed. Good suction, easy to empty and LOVE the wand with its adjustable length. And, of course, lightweight. I am seriously thinking of purchasing one myself, as my monster upright is literally a pain to push around.

  2. I have a 2000 sq. foot house, all hardwood floors with throw rugs, and a Golden Retriever who sheds like there is no tomorrow. The Hoover Multi-Cyclonic handled everything I threw at it with no problems. It was incredibly light and easy to use. I couldn't believe how fast I could change attachments, empty the canister, and the other reviewers are right, it doesn't lose suction. I do wish it had a longer cord, but for $149 and a fantastically clean house I can deal with that small flaw.

  4. I have been looking for a new canister vacuum for awhile now. I wasn't finding any that I loved, and was having trouble spending too much money. I had just a cheap Eureka canister vacuum but its lifetime was limited (it was starting to get REALLY hot when I used it). With my old canister vacuum, I had used it simply to vacuum the kitchen (linoleum), entry way (linoleum) and bathrooms (ceramic tile). I didn't know any better so I thought it was "good enough." The one thing I did really like about it was the retractable cord, and the fact that it was bagless. Those were two features that were a must in my new vacuum. I'm a huge Target fan, and while shopping at Target a few weekends ago my husband and I decided to check out the vacuums. That's where we found this gem. I didn't recognize it, as I hadn't seen it on Amazon, or Target's website (probably because they are out of stock), but liked the way it looked, and the features it had, so we decided to get it, try it out, do some research and return it if it was a dud. I am so thrilled that we go it. It seems like we would have never found it if we hadn't luckily stumbled upon it that day (it was the only one left). Immediately I was vacuuming the hard floors, and it was fun. It worked so well. I used to have to go around the edges of the room to try to get the dirt up, but with this I had the power brush on and it was catching everything! I couldn't believe it! I still do go around the edgest of the room with the small brush on it, just out of habit but I probably wouldn't need too. After vacuuming the hard floors I decided to try the carpet - something I had never done with my old canister, because it would have just pushed stuff around, not picked it up. I was floored (haha) at how well this vacuum did on the carpets. I have a stand up Dyson, and my husband thought this was doing a better job. I enjoyed vacuuming with it so much that I was doing it once a day for a few weeks! Now I've settled down a little, but do look forward to using it on my weekly cleaning day.

My only complaint is that the hose gets "knotted" up a little depending on how you move, to me, it isn't a big deal at all, so I didn't even knock it a star. It just causes you to do some fancy manuevers to get it unknotted.

    Great vacuum!!!

Also - the way you empty this vacuum is awesome - similar to my dyson - so easy, doesn't cauese a mess like my old vacuum!

  5. We have a 2000 sq. ft. home with 2 dogs and a cat so we tend to put our vacuum cleaners through frequent hard use. As such, we weren't looking to spend more than $200 on a cleaner that, in all actuality, would probably need replacing in 2 years. After a terrible experience with another vacuum (the Eureka 940A Pet vacuum - CHEAP, awful, and useless after 1 month), we were looking for another that was 1) under $200; 2) a canister; 3) bagless; 4) had some quality construction and maintained suction. We saw the Hoover Multi-Cyclonic Canister at our local Target and were impressed with the feel and quality of it, but were a bit skeptical of what we would be getting for the $150 price. Amazon was pretty short on reviews, but the ones that were posted all had very positive comments (including a suspicious one that seemed to know WAY too much about vacuum cleaners and Dyson patents) so we decided to give it a shot. We're very glad we did - this little cleaner has been awesome.

    PROS:
    - Incredible suction. Does not lose power no matter how much pet hair we pick up and it does not clog.
    - Powered beater head. Most inexpensive vacuums have heads that rely on suction to turn the beater and slowly become less and less efficient as they lose suction.
    - Solid, quality construction. The hose leading to the beater is metal and all other parts are thick heavy-duty plastic. No cheap plastic parts.
    - Flared bristles on the beater bar. Great for cleaning all the way up to the baseboards without having to go back around the room with the crevice tool.
    - Standard hose attachment size. We've accumulated several attachments from previous cleaners that we like to use (upholstery brush, blind cleaner) and they all fit this new vacuum.
    - Easy to empty canister. No filters or lids to remove and it back on. Just push the button and dump.
    - Washable filters. Including a HEPA filter
    - Retractable cord.
    - THE SUCTION...again, it really is fantastic and stays that way.

    Just a few CONS:
    - The cord is a bit short. An extra 3-5 ft would have been great
    - No swivel on the hose. It doesn't swivel/rotate at either end (where hose connects to vacuum or where hose connects to gun) so it tends to get tangled or bent and awkward at times.
    - The hose and beater portion only store/attach to the vacuum in one position. It would be great if there was another clip where you could attach the hose/beater to the vacuum while it was standing upright to save even more storage room.
    - Fixed beater bar height. We have all hardwood floors so this isn't an issue, but this might be a pain for someone that has a mix of hardwood and carpet or a lot of rugs.

Really, the cons aren't even that bad...more like "wants" if Hoover were taking suggestions to make this machine perfect. We've been really impressed and would recommend this vacuum to anybody. Highly doubt you're going to find better quality and suction for the price...that's probably the reason this is ALWAYS out of stock (we haven't seen it in stock at our Target in over 2 months). Buy this and treat yourself to a vacation ticket somewhere with the money you'll save over a Dyson or Miele!

  6. I bought this vacuum based on the good reviews. I read all the bad reviews, but still wanted to check it out for myself. In the past I have found that a lot of "bad" reviews are due to human error, and not the product.
I have 3 Saint Bernard dogs and 1 lab. We have all hardwood floors and a few scattered rugs. I also have a gravel driveway and lots of sand. All that being said here is what I found.

When I first used it, I was amazed at how well it sucked up the dog hair. It picked up all the sand, dirt, and debris on the bare floors. The scattered rugs NEVER looked so good. I love this vacuum. The power brush is controlled at the handle, so it is so easy to turn it on and off. The vacuum glides very easy. It is QUIET as a vacuum can be.

The HEPA filter works great, considering my daughter has allergies. It is easy to remove the canister and dump it out.

I have only good things to say about this vacuum. I highly recommend it.

  7. This is an outstanding vacuum cleaner. It is basically very similar to the Dyson DC23, and seems to have better performance at less than half the price. Unlike the Dyson, it actually has a powered brush head (not air driven, but an actual motor), which works very well both on carpets and on hard floors. It has very powerful suction, and it does not seem to have any issues with clogging up. The canister is removable and is very easy to remove and empty into the trash. The HEPA filter is removable and washable. The vacuum is very quiet and lightweight, and is very easy to carry up and down stairs. The wheels are rubberized and roll with very little resistance. The build quality appears to be excellent, although I have not used it long enough to really say anything about reliability. Everything can be taken apart and cleaned easily.

There are only two minor issues. The hose does not swivel, which is sometimes annoying. There are no provisions for adjusting pile height on the carpet brush, although it works very well as-is. However, overall this is by far the best machine in this price range.

  8. This vacuum is especially great for multi floor homes. I have hard floors, wall-to-wall carpeting, as well as area rugs, and a canister vacuum is so much easier than an upright. This particular model is even better than others, in that controlling the spinning brush head is right at your thumb-tip, while you vacuum. Click it off as you glide to the hard floor, click it back on as you turn back to the rugs. No stopping and bending. This is also quieter than the last two vacuums I've had, and the unused attachments actually stay in place on the unit while in use, instead of being bumped off regularly. It is light and easy to use, and does a really good job at getting the edges, even when you don't switch to an edge tool.

As far as cons go, it does have a large footprint for storing when not in use. Also, emptying the canister is not a no-touch job in a house that sucks up a lot of hair. I have to manually dislodge the clump, instead of just opening and giving a little tap on the side of the trash can, to let it fall out.
